Heart Walk raises $631k for AHA
|
Citizen Staff Reports 11/05/12
![]() Participants took to the one- and three-mile routes around the Innsbrook office park to help raise awareness for heart disease to support the education, programs and research goals of the American Heart Association. Teams representing local businesses, universities and community groups walked together with brightly colored matching shirts to show their unity. “It is rewarding to see the whole community getting involved, all working together to raise awareness of the nation’s No. 1 killer, heart disease, and No. 4 killer, stroke,” said Heart Walk Chair and Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital CEO Mark Gordon. “Thanks to our walkers, volunteers and sponsors, we had a very successful event. To raise this amount of money to support the American Heart Association and its life-saving mission is a testament to the generosity of the Richmond community.” Through heart-healthy food, children’s activities, health screenings and other educational exhibits, attendees had the opportunity to learn more about their risks for cardiovascular diseases and to improve their health. |
