HCPA accepting applications for fall academy

The Henrico Citizens Police Academy is now accepting applications for its 38th academy set to begin in September. Classes will be held Mondays, Sept. 10 through Nov. 5, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

At the Citizens Police Academy students will learn about the Division’s mission and community policing philosophy, law enforcement operations, the criminal justice system, crime prevention and crime trends and how they affect the community. Alumni serve as a support base for the Division of Police through education, training and volunteer participation and act as liaisons between the Division and the citizens of Henrico County.

A free educational seminar, “Heart Failure Aware,” will take place at 10 a.m. at Hidden Creek Recreation Center, 2417 Brockway Ln. Approximately 6.5 million Americans are diagnosed with heart failure, yet many have misunderstandings about the condition. During the program a health care professional will walk attendees through causes of heart failure, common symptoms, management tips and frequently prescribed medication.
