Green Hero Honored

Henrico resident and community leader Karl Bren was honored Oct. 21 at the Virginia Historical Society as a recipient of one of the James River Green Building Council’s (JRGBC) Sixth Annual Green Building Leadership Awards. Bren (pictured, center, with JRGBC Executive Director Megan Miller, left, and JRGBC Chair Lynn Rogien) is the owner of GreenVisions Consulting and has been involved with green building and sustainable development for more than 20 years. Among other recipients of awards were the organizations Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and projects such as VCU’s Inger and Walter Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences and the Moseley Architects’ headquarters building.

Kickboxing fitness franchise 9Round, located at 3442 Lauderdale Dr., will host its Kick Event for Breast Cancer from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fitness enthusiasts will have a unique opportunity to help raise money for breast cancer awareness, with one penny being donated for every kick recorded throughout the day. All proceeds will go to the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation.
