‘Golden trowel’ for Lewis Ginter

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (LGBG) was one of four organizations and individuals honored with a Golden Trowel Award at Tricycle Gardens’ Fourth Annual Harvest Celebration, held Nov. 9 at Historic Main Street Station. Among LGBG staff members and supporters celebrating the award were, from left, Brian Vick, Grace Chapman, Laura Schumm, Shane Tippett, Shannon Smith and Randee Humphrey.
Founded in 2007, Tricycle Gardens is a Richmond nonprofit organization focused on growing healthy food, healthy communities and healthy food access. LGBG earned the award in the Focus on Community category for its Community Kitchen Garden, which dedicates an entire garden to growing vegetables for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Other winners of the Golden Trowel Award were Relay Foods, the Children’s Museum of Richmond, and Duron Chavis.
The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. The Clothing Closet will be open from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The church is located at 22 North Holly Avenue. > Read more.
