Filipino Festival returns Aug. 12-13

The sixth-annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 12-13 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 8200 Woodman Road in Henrico.

The event, designed to celebrate Filipino culture, is expected to attract nearly 10,000 visitors this year. It is sponsored by the church, and all proceeds benefit local charities sponsored by the church, including Lamb’s Basket, Laura’s Closet and the OLL Food Pantry. Admission is free.

Attendees will be able to sample Filipino cuisine, entertainment and a cultural program that will include traditional dances and exhibitions. More than 40 vendors will display authentic Filipino crafts and clothing and for sale, and live bands and entertainment will be on display both nights, with traditional folk dances and Filipino music performed Saturday night.

The Filipino Festival will run from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 12 and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 13. For details, visit http://www.FilipinoFestival.org or e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
