Festival will help RIR ‘race’ into spring

Richmond International Raceway will host its second annual Race Into Spring Festival on Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m to 2 p.m., featuring a number of family-friendly activities.

The free event will include more than three times the number of displays as the inaugural event. Among the features will be: a petting zoo, featuring an alpaca, sheep, goat, rabbit, pony, pig, chicken and ducks; candy-filled egg hunts for children ages 12 and younger (times vary by age group, between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.); free popcorn, lemonade and water; hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and sodas available for purchase; face painting; a moon bounce and a “big” race bounce/slide; the Richmond International Raceway Pace Car; games, including bowling, bean bag toss and ladder golf; a live radio remote by 93.1 The Wolf; and displays, exhibits and giveaways from a number of local businesses and organizations.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
