Virginia's three-day tax-free holiday begins this Friday, Aug. 4, and continues through Sunday, Aug. 6. During the three-day event, the state sales tax is waived for qualifying school supplies, clothing, footwear, hurricane and emergency preparedness items and Energy Star and WaterSense products.

Qualified school supplies of less than $20 per item, qualified clothing and shoes of less than $100 per items and portable generators of less than $1,000 per item are among those covered by the event.

In addition, many retailers are offering to pay the tax on other items themselves during the event.

Detailed lists of qualifying items and more information is available online at: https://www.tax.virginia.gov/sites/default/files/inline-files/2017-sales-tax-holiday-guidelines.pdf Full text
