Dedicated to the notion that science is everywhere, the Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St., will be highlighting the laws of physics, thermodynamics and nutrition through the much maligned holiday pastry — the fruitcake – during Fruitcake Science, held daily Dec. 26-30. Richmond Volleyball Club (RVC) will host its 2nd annual Light Up the Night Gala and Raffle Fundraiser from 7 p.m. to midnight at 2921 Byrdhill Rd. There will be an open bar, hors d’ oeuvres, live music by the Jangling Reinharts and a chance to win cash and prizes. Admission for two is $100. The Harlem Globetrotters will bring their 2012 World Tour to the Richmond Coliseum at 7 p.m. The show will feature rookies Paul “Tiny” Sturgess, the world’s tallest pro basketball player at 7’6, Jonte “Too Tall” Hall, the shortest Globetrotter ever at 5’2, and Fatima “TNT” Maddox, the team’s first female player since 1993. GayRVA.com’s A-List New Year’s Eve Party will begin at 10 p.m. at Aloft Richmond West, 3939 Duckling Dr. in West Broad Village. DJ Ease and Dead Fame will provide entertainment. A $25 ticket includes a dessert and champagne toast. A VIP package is available for those who wish to stay overnight in the hotel. The cost is $150 for two and includes an open bar from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and complimentary breakfast on New Year’s Day. Space is limited; tickets will not be available at the door. Celebrate New Year’s Eve with the Richmond Folk Music Society, featuring Deb Clinton and friends, at 8 p.m. at Congregation Or Ami, 9400 Huguenot Rd. There will be assorted tunes from the golden years of the American and Yiddish theater, along with old favorites from The Great American Songbook. The concert-only price is $15 in advance and $18 at the door and includes dessert and coffee at intermission. Dinner and concert are $28. Reservations for dinner are needed by Dec. 26. Henrico CASA and Susan's Selections are partnering to present an online auction beginning Sept 12. Proceeds will benefit Henrico CASA. Any item with a $50 or more resale value – from pottery to furniture and everything in between – can be donated.

The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.
Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.
Innsbrook After Hours will welcome ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, O.A.R. and other performers this month.
On Aug. 12, Tyler Farr, with special guest Parmalee, will perform at 6 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Farr began his career with years of formal voice training with the OAKE National Choir but at 21, he moved to Nashville. Tickets are $15 to $99.
