Civil War Living History Day planned for Saturday

Join the County of Henrico Division of Recreation and Parks for the Civil War Living History Day. This free family event will be held on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dabbs House Museum, 3812 Nine Mile Road in Henrico.

Explore life during the Civil War for men, women and children whether they were at home, in camp or on the battlefield. Re-enactors will set up Civil War style encampments, soldier drilling and firing displays. Other domestic Civil War chores and activities will also be highlighted.

Throughout the day, scheduled presentations will be shared on different aspects of the Civil War ranging from the lives of individual generals to the service of African-American Soldiers to the definition of patriotism during the Civil War. Children will be able to participate in several “period” games, crafts and more.

The Hanover Book Festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Times-Dispatch Community Building, 8460 Times Dispatch Dr. in Mechanicsville. Greet dozens of current authors, attend a workshop for aspiring writers, and browse books – for every four bought, you’ll receive a free book. There will also be a silent auction, children’s activities and more. Admission is free and open to the community.
