Christmas Mother program kicks off

Christmas Mothers hailing from as far back as 1976 (Thelma Moore) gathered at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center Oct. 15 (above) for the annual coffee hosted by The Henrico Christmas Mother Council. In addition to honoring 2012 Christmas Mother Terry McConnell Brady, the event recognized several Henrico County officials, presenting Christmas Mother shirts to (below, pictured from left) retired deputy county managers George Drumwright and Angela Harper and retiring County Manager Virgil Hazelett – as well as a "work hat" to incoming County Manager John Vithoulkas.

The Christmas Mother program provides qualifying families, disabled adults and the elderly with food, clothing, books and toys during the holiday season. The application process will begin Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. at the Christmas Mother Warehouse on Dabbs House Road, and continue on Mondays through Nov. 19. For information on applying for assistance, making donations, volunteering or sponsoring a family, visit http://www.henricochristmasmother.org or call 236-9741.
