Art ‘ReFined’ in Lakeside

Local artist Kris Taylor (above) was among the visitors at a March 31 open house held at the relocated women's consignment shop ReFinery, formerly of the Bellevue area and now in Lakeside. Among the artist's oil paintings and framed etchings now on display at the shop is this favorite, "Second Sighting of the Sacred White Cow," which was inspired by a field full of cows that Taylor spotted while driving through the Colorado countryside near Ute Mountain. Taylor's work will be on display through May at ReFinery, located at 5402 Lakeside Avenue.

The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present “Soil” at 7:30 p.m. in Alice Jepson Theatre. “Soil” is a dance theater trio that explores crisis in three Southeast Asian cultures through the personal narratives of Cambodian classical dancer Chey Chankethya, Thai traditional and contemporary dancer Waewdao Sirisook, and Vietnamese-American contemporary dancer Nguyen Nguyen. Conceived by Michael Sakamoto and developed in collaboration with the performers, “Soil” includes dance and incidental music by Japanese koto and guitar duo Reiko Imanishi and Shinichi Isohata.
