‘Golden trowel’ for Lewis Ginter

Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden (LGBG) was one of four organizations and individuals honored with a Golden Trowel Award at Tricycle Gardens’ Fourth Annual Harvest Celebration, held Nov. 9 at Historic Main Street Station. Among LGBG staff members and supporters celebrating the award were, from left, Brian Vick, Grace Chapman, Laura Schumm, Shane Tippett, Shannon Smith and Randee Humphrey.

Founded in 2007, Tricycle Gardens is a Richmond nonprofit organization focused on growing healthy food, healthy communities and healthy food access. LGBG earned the award in the Focus on Community category for its Community Kitchen Garden, which dedicates an entire garden to growing vegetables for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Other winners of the Golden Trowel Award were Relay Foods, the Children’s Museum of Richmond, and Duron Chavis.

Deep Run Recreation Center will host “Sunday Afternoon with the Classics” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The topic will be the “Day 2” Modified Car. This “back in the day” 1960s trend embraces the philosophy that to improve performance and get the look of the vehicle just right, purchase the perfect car and on “Day 2” – or the second day of ownership – add near-instant modifications and upgrades such as Crager mag wheels, white letter tires, side pipes, a fancy paint job, fender skirts and other aftermarket accessories. Richmond Region AACA will give a presentation with mildly modified, period-correct cars to see up-close. Admission is free.
