Mystery Dinner Playhouse’s new show “Here’s Killing You, Kid” will open at 7:30 p.m. inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 6531 W. The University of Richmond will host the Third Practice Electroacoustic Music Festival at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Nov. 2-3 and also at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. 3P is celebrating its 12th year of bringing new electroacoustic music and experimental video to Richmond. The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd., will host UkeFest Virginia, a celebration of the four string dynamo, Nov. 2-3. The Festival features wall to wall music, from serious concerts to informal jams, workshops, and open mic performances, as well as artisans and vendors; all designed to present the wide range of fun available from this unique and mesmerizing instrument. The event kicks off Friday as Ashland resident Thomas Wakefield and The Aloha Boys perform at 7 p.m. UkeFest admission includes a UkeFest Unlimited Access Package for $65 (all concerts and three workshops) or individual tickets which are $12 for concerts and $10 for workshops. The Lakeside Rescue 5K, to benefit the Lakeside Volunteer Rescue Squad, will begin at 9 a.m. at 2007 Timberlake Ave. The LVRS provides emergency medical services to the community free of charge. Richmond Road Runners will facilitate the race and timing. There will also be music, various food venues and businesses. Registration is $20 in advance and $25 on race day. The first annual Girl Power 2 Cure 5K run, in honor of Anna Cate who is fighting Rett Syndrome, will take place at 8 a.m. in the Snagajob Pavilion in Innsbrook, 4901 Lakebrook Dr. Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder diagnosed almost exclusively in young girls. Registration is $25 for adults, $20 for children age 12 and under and $35 for one adult/child team. Strollers and wheelchairs welcome. The second annual Family Arts Day Celebration at the University of Richmond will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This art-centered family event will feature free arts-centered activities including the exhibitions in the Harnett Museum of Art, hands-on art activities in the Booth Lobby and Modlin Courtyard, entertainment, refreshments and more. At 3 p.m. eighth blackbird will perform in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. Admission is free; the eighth blackbird concert is $15. County plans Fourth of July event


Henrico County Recreation and Parks will present “Red, White, and Lights” at Meadow Farm Museum/Crump Park July 4.

Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.

The free event will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will feature the Richmond Symphony, a laser-light show, patriotic performances, and family activities. > Read more.

Tuckahoe YMCA to host Refugee Community Resource Fair


The Tuckahoe Family YMCA and ReEstablish Richmond will host the third-annual Refugee Community Resource Fair Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to noon at the YMCA, 9211 Patterson Avenue in Henrico. The event is designed to provide refugees in the region information about jobs, local businesses, housing, health care, education and more.

As part of its strategic plan, the YMCA of Greater Richmond works to identify, address and eliminate economic, geographic and cultural barriers. > Read more.
