New signs installed in Meadowood

Two new signs were installed this week in the Meadowood subdivision, near Henrico High School, marking the community of 1960s-era brick ranchers and tri-level homes.

The signs of gold lettering on a black background feature an oval picture of birds soaring above a meadow and trees – significant because streets in the subdivision are named for birds. The signs were installed at Lark and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike and Sandpiper and Azalea Avenue.

Funding was provided by a grant from Henrico County and from the residents and members of the homeowners association.

“Rise Up Strong: Be Healthy” is a multi-generational event taking place July 7-9 at Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Rd. Events for all ages start at 5 p.m. July 7 with a cookout followed by a circle dance and vespers. July 8 activities include yoga, art for relaxation and a nature walk. The culminating event will be the packaging of meals for Rise Against Hunger (formerly Stop World Hunger) at 5 p.m. July 9. The church hopes to pack 20,000 meals for school children across the world.
