New signs installed in Meadowood

Two new signs were installed this week in the Meadowood subdivision, near Henrico High School, marking the community of 1960s-era brick ranchers and tri-level homes.

The signs of gold lettering on a black background feature an oval picture of birds soaring above a meadow and trees – significant because streets in the subdivision are named for birds. The signs were installed at Lark and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike and Sandpiper and Azalea Avenue.

Funding was provided by a grant from Henrico County and from the residents and members of the homeowners association.

The READ Center will hold a Volunteer Orientation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Oct. 2 and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 4. The Center's mission is to help adults with low-level literacy develop reading and communication skills so they can fulfill their roles as citizens, workers and family members, and improve their quality of life. The Center provides classes and one-to-one tutoring and there is an ongoing need for volunteers willing to tutor students in reading, writing, basic math and digital skills.
