‘Cookies for Kids’ cancer bake sales planned Saturday
|
Citizen Staff Reports 09/05/12
![]() Proceeds from the sale will benefit the national nonprofit founded by Richmond native Gretchen Holt Witt that supports research for new and improved therapies for pediatric cancers. Through local bake sales, Cookies for Kids’ Cancer provides the inspiration and support for individuals, communities and businesses to help fight pediatric cancer together. Last year, the local bake sales raised more the $31,000 for the organization. This year, hundreds of adult and youth volunteers, along with a number of local businesses, will join forces to promote bake sales. Approximately 30 bake sales in the Richmond metro area will be powered by the donation of 20,000 frozen gourmet cookies from Jacqueline’s Gourmet Cookies in Salem, Mass. Those cookies will be baked and packaged locally by Ashland-based Daystar Desserts. Daystar Desserts employees, along with their friends and families, conducted a one-day volunteer baking blitz earlier this month to bake thousands of chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, white chocolate macadamia and sugar cookies. In Henrico, cookies will be sold Saturday at the following locations from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless otherwise noted: To see a complete list of bake sales, visit http://www.cookiesforkidscancer.org and click on “Events.” For details on the city-wide bake sale, visit http://tinyurl.com/d3cf6pf |
