The Chesterfield County Fair opens today and continues through Sept. 1 at 10300 Courthouse Rd. There will be midway rides, a carousel, vendors and exhibitors, the Miss Chesterfield pageant, contests, festival fare and more. Hours of operation are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays and 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday. Daily gate admission is $8 for adults, $5 for seniors, $3 for children ages 6-12 and free for children under five. Wristbands for unlimited midway rides are $25. The ninth annual Movin and Groovin event for pancreatic cancer research will take place from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Rd. The event features a 5K run, two-mile walk and kids’ fun run. Entertainment will be provided by DJ Luke Gibson, along with live music by Haze and the Transients, juggling by Jonathan Austin, PT Moonwalks and balloon fun with Miss Sheri the Clown. St. John’s Catholic Church, 813 W. Nine Mile Rd., will host Summer Fest from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be BBQ, ribs and turkey legs, as well as hamburgers, hotdogs, tacos and pizza. Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and Endorphin Fitness will host the VHBG Youth Triathlon from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 8716 W. Broad St. Boys and girls, ages 5-14, can run, bike and swim as individual racers or join a relay team. Beginners are welcome. There is also an optional five-day camp to prepare youth for a triathlon where they will receive expert coaching and experience fitness in an engaging, fun group setting. The event benefits VHBG. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
