Harmony in Hanover continues with Robbin Thompson at 7 p.m. at Hanover Tavern, 13181 Hanover Courthouse Rd. Tickets are $25 and include a reception at 6 p.m. Proceeds from Harmony in Hanover support the Foundation’s mission to restore, preserve and utilize Hanover Tavern as an historic, educational, community and cultural resource center. As part of its tenth anniversary celebration, One Voice Chorus will perform “The Best of One Voice Chorus” at 7 p.m. at St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5200 Grove Ave. Selections drawn from the chorus’ ten-year history will present a variety of styles – spirituals, classical and jazz – including a special favorite, Robert Ray’s “Gospel Mass.” A pre-concert conversation will begin at 6 p.m. Adult admission is a $15 donation; children ages 12 and under are free. The Central Virginia CPR Council will continue to offer free hands-only cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) classes to anyone who wishes to attend for three days in June known as the Great Days of CPR. The second location will be at The Diamond, 3001 N Boulevard. CPR Night at the Diamond during the Squirrels game will be a series of quick Hands-Only CPR demonstrations throughout the night, starting at 5 p.m., giving attendees a chance to try Hands-Only CPR before and during the baseball game. Pint-sized food lovers and even the pickiest eaters will have a blast getting crafty with cuisine as Super Duper Mini Chefs makes its annual spring appearance at Virginia Center Commons Mall, 10101 Brook Rd. Starting at 2 p.m., kids will be able to create pasta art and jewelry, play Nickelodeon’s new “iCarly: Groovy Foodie!” game for the Nintendo DS and explore the creativity of cuisine through a combination of demos and interactive activities. The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin. Skating costs are $8 for children and $10 for adults, with $4 skate rentals available. Parking is free. The Rink is located at 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen.
