The James River Advisory Council, in cooperation with the James River Association, will sponsor the 13th annual James River Regional Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at various spots along the river. Volunteers may select sites between Lynchburg and Charles City County, including Osborne Park and Boat Landing in Varina. Volunteers will pick up trash and recyclable materials along shoreline areas and trails, while paddlers and power-boaters will collect floating trash and access shoreline trash that is difficult to reach by foot. Family Palooza will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the tracks at the Science Museum of Virginia, 2500 W. Broad St. Activities include free health screenings, face painting and glitter tattoos, juggling and magic with Jonathan Austin, games, music, sports with the UR Spiders and Kickers and a mascot dance-off featuring Nutzy, Kickeroo, the Richmond Spider and more. The American Youth Harp Ensemble will present “Classical Jam” at 4 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 4200 Dover Rd. The concert will feature over 70 harpists and singers, ages 7-18, performing music from classical to jazz, Bach to the Beatles, as arranged specifically for the ensemble. First Things First, in collaboration with the Richmond Kickers and the Greater Richmond Aquatics Partnership, will host “Celebrate Fatherhood” from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Ukrop Park and the new Collegiate School Aquatics Center. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present National Theatre Live’s “Frankenstein” at 2 p.m. June 10 and at 7 p.m. June 11 in Camp Concert Hall. This new production, based on the novel by Mary Shelley, features Johnny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch; Miller and Cumberbatch alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature in two electrifying broadcasts. ‘Proof of Heaven’ coming to Glen Allen


Dr. Even Alexander, a New York Times best-selling author who has been featured on Oprah and Dr. Oz, was in town last week to promote his June 27 talk, "Proof of Heaven," at Glen Allen High School.

Alexander (pictured, at right, while Unity of Bon Air church member Harry Simmons interviews him) has written about what he considers to be his journey through the afterlife.

Tickets to this month's event are $25 and will support the new Bon Secours Hospice House being built later this year. > Read more.

Innsbrook Rotary celebrates 25 years


The Innsbrook Rotary Club, which is celebrating its 25th year in 2015, has completed a number of volunteer projects this year and raised thousands of dollars for various organizations through three events.

The club's annual rose sale, benefit for youth live auction and Virginia Fire Games competition, combined with individual and corporate donations, have raised nearly $70,000 – money that the club contributes back to the community.

FeedMore is the beneficiary of the club's 25th anniversary project, which provides refrigerated trailers to be used for the distribution of food throughout Central Virginia. > Read more.
