The Modlin Center for the Arts will present Compagnia T.P.O.’s “Farfalle” at 7:30 p.m. May 11 and at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. May 12 in Cousins Studio Theatre at the University of Richmond. The technological centerpiece of “Farfalle” (Butterflies) is the CCC or “children’s cheering carpet,” a special sensor-covered mat, which interacts with dancers and the audience in real, enchanted time. The Henrico Theatre Company will perform “See How They Run” at 8 p.m. May 11-12 and at 2:30 p.m. May 13 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. The farce by Philip King tells the story of two American actors, two maids and four clergymen. The production continues through May 20. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. The Ultimate Recycling Sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Millhiser Gymnasium at the University of Richmond. The sale features reusable student discards including small refrigerators, microwaves, electronics, furniture, clothing, shoes, housewares, kitchen items, holiday décor, office supplies, books, linens and more. The 34th annual Virginia Senior Games will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Hermitage High School, 8301 Hungary Springs Rd. Watch senior athletes compete in basketball, track and field and more. The County of Henrico Division of Recreation and Parks will host KidFest, a day in the park that’s tailored just for kids, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Deep Run Park, 9900 Ridgefield Pkwy. Enjoy games, arts and crafts, information booths and listen to the acoustic sounds of local band Juniper Green. Kids can also participate in ZumbAtomic, an interactive dance fitness program led by Tamara Schwerin of Young Audiences of Virginia. Admission is free. The Henrico County Division of Police will hold a rabies clinic for dogs and cats from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Richmond International Raceway, 600 E. Laburnum Ave. Vaccination shots cost $10 and must be paid in cash. A rabies tag and certificate of inoculation are included. Dog licenses will also be available. Pets from all localities are welcome. The Virginia Renaissance Faire will open for its 11th year from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 12-13 at Lake Anna Winery, 5621 Courthouse Rd. The faire continues for five weekends with each weekend featuring a different theme. There will be period costumes, shopping, music, hands-on historical crafts and re-enactments, archery, jousting displays, children’s activities, food, drinks and more. The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.
Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.
The Children’s Museum of Richmond last week opened its new Short Pump location at Short Pump Town Center, to the delight of children who attended a sneak preview of the location July 10. The new facility, located under the forthcoming LL Bean store (formerly the food court) is 8,500 square feet in size – much larger than CMoR’s former Short Pump location at West Broad Village, which opened in 2010. The new space includes The CarMax Foundation Service Station, the Silver Diner, a grocery store, a performance stage and an art studio, as well as a giant Light Bright Wall. > Read more.
Innsbrook After Hours will welcome ZZ Top, The Beach Boys, O.A.R. and other performers this month.
On Aug. 12, Tyler Farr, with special guest Parmalee, will perform at 6 p.m., with gates opening at 5 p.m. Farr began his career with years of formal voice training with the OAKE National Choir but at 21, he moved to Nashville. Tickets are $15 to $99.
