The Troudadours Theatre Community Group will present “Guys and Dolls” at 7:30 p.m. April 27 and at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. April 28 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children ages 12 and under. For details, call 714-6277.

The Central Virginia Waste Management Authority (CVWMA) will host a special recycling event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Twin Hickory Library, 5001 Twin Hickory Rd. Items accepted include televisions, computers, computer monitors, computer accessories, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, telephones and cell phones, VCRs and camcorders, stereos, microwaves and more. Elko Middle School’s community bazaar, postponed from March 23, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 5901 Elko Rd. There will be 38 vendors, a car wash, food, a cub mobile race, scout sign-ups and more. Admission is free. For details, call 328-4110.

Henrico East Rotary will host the 3rd annual Rockin’ the Raceway from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Colonial Downs in New Kent. Food and beverages will be for sale and The Remnants will provide live entertainment. Proceeds will support the Chickahominy YMCA and other charitable endeavors of Henrico East Rotary. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will host its 3rd annual Superhero Run at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Villa, 8000 Brook Rd. The 5K race is open to all ages and participants are encouraged to dress in their favorite superhero costumes. Medals will be awarded to the top finishers and prizes will be given to runners wearing the “most heroic” costumes. A post-race fair with moon bounces, face painting, games and other entertainment will follow. Registration fees are $10 to $30 in advance and $15 to $35 the day of the race. Local families are invited to “Take on Summer” from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the annual Healthy Kids Day® and Walk, taking place at four YMCA branches, including Northside and Shady Grove in Henrico. The free community event, in partnership with Bon Secours Richmond Health System, helps families find fun through active play and educational opportunities. Each location will feature fun activities, including rock walls, pony rides, obstacle courses, McGruff Child ID stations, Food Fear Factor, Action Art Painting, relay races, face painting and more. St. Joseph’s Villa will hold its Bluegrass Ball at 6 p.m. on the Villa campus at 8000 Brook Rd. The event will raise funds for the Villa's Flagler Home, which serves homeless children and their families. The Bluegrass Ball is also the 18th Hoe-down to Stomp Homelessness. The Henrico County Democratic Committee’s signature fundraiser “Battle for the Blue” will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Crossroads Arts Center, 2016 Staples Mill Rd. Aneesh Chopra, President Obama’s former chief technology officer, will speak on “Winning the Future through Open Innovation.” Dinner tickets are $50. Proceeds will help the committee build a strong grassroots base and will provide resources for voter registration drives and get-out-the-vote efforts. Henricus to portray ‘Arnold’s Raid on Richmond’ Jan. 31


The Henricus Historical Park in Chesterfield this weekend will portray "Arnold's Raid on Richmond," which took place in 1781 when British General Benedict Arnold took his small British and Loyalist forces and raided Richmond as Governor Thomas Jefferson watched from the safety of Manchester.

The event will take place Jan. 31 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Period-dressed historical interpreters will occupy the bluff overlooking the James River.

Hundreds of 'tweens' and their moms will attend the Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair Tour at West End Assembly of God on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m., a popular Bible-based tour geared toward building and strengthening relationships between mothers and their daughters (typically ages 8 to 12).

The event will feature a full fashion show, oversized balloon sculptures and confetti cannons – all in the name of inner beauty, Biblical modesty and vibrant purity. > Read more.

OutRVA, ‘Say I Do!’ to give away all-expenses paid wedding at Lewis Ginter

OutRVA and Say I Do! have collaborated to offer LGBT couples an opportunity to win an all-expenses-paid wedding at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s Robins Tea House on March 7.

In September, Richmond Region Tourism launched OutRVA, a campaign designed to show people Richmond’s strong LGBT community and highlight the area as a travel destination.

The winning couple will say "I do" in a ceremony coordinated by event designer and floral artist Casey Godlove of Strawberry Fields Flowers & Gifts and marriage concierge, Ayana Obika of All About The Journey. The couple will receive wardrobe and styling, a custom wedding cake, florals, an overnight stay at the Linden Row Inn (including a suite on the day of the wedding for preparation), and a post-wedding brunch at the Hilton Garden Inn on Sunday, March 8. > Read more.

CAT Theatre announces auditions for ‘Quartet’

CAT Theatre will hold auditions for Quartet on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 22, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Auditions will be held at the theatre, located at 319 N. Wilkinson Road in Richmond. Quartet will run May 22 through June 6 and will close out CAT’s 51st season.

Director Laurie Follmer is seeking two males, ages 50-70 and two females ages 50-70. British accents are required for roles and are requested for auditions. There is no actual singing in the show.
