The Henrico Police Athletic League (PAL) will host a Mentor Day Carnival from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Genworth Campus, 6620 W. Broad St. There will be an opportunity to learn more about Henrico PAL and its mentoring program and the chance to register, if individuals want to mentor or need a mentor. In addition to food, games and prizes, there will be an appearance by the Lady Raiders from the Richmond Raiders Professional Indoor Football team and information regarding voter registration. YMCA of Greater Richmond and Goodwill will host an electronics recycling event during business hours at all greater Richmond locations including Chickahominy, John Rolfe, North Richmond, Shady Grove and Tuckahoe branches in Henrico. Organizers hope to collect 15 tons of unwanted electronics including personal computers, keyboards, mice, monitors, printers and scanners. Little Sisters of the Poor will host the 4th annual French Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Home, 1503 Michaels Rd. There will be French desserts, chocolates, bread and wine and for the first time, there will be a Parisian Marketplace offering a variety of unique vendors. There will also be live entertainment by local artists and fun-filled games and activities for children. Admission is free but donations are appreciated. RIR’s Christmas tree lighting rescheduled for Dec. 12


Richmond International Raceway's 13th annual Community Christmas tree lighting has been rescheduled from Dec. 6 to Monday, Dec. 12, at 6 p.m., due to inclement weather expected on the original date.

Entertainment Dec. 12 will be provided by the Laburnum Elementary School choir and the Henrico High School Mighty Marching Warriors band. Tree decorations crafted by students from Laburnum Elementary School and L. Douglas Wilder Middle School will be on display. Hot chocolate and cookies will be supplied by the Henrico High School football boosters. > Read more.

The project:HOMES "Renew Crew" (above) recently assisted an elderly member of the Laurel Presbyterian Church in Henrico by clearing brush, trimming hedges and raking leaves in her yard.

The Renew Crew serves low-income, disabled and elderly homeowners in need of small-scale home repairs such as porch, railing and step repairs, exterior painting, clearing overgrown yards, tearing down outbuildings, wheelchair ramps and other critical repairs and accessibility modifications. > Read more.

Kicking the weekend off is Glorious Christmas Nights’ production of “Finding Christmas” at West End Assembly of God. Gayton Baptist Church’s annual Jazz Nativity starts tonight.
