The Moon Rats, a hip, new blue-country-rock-grass orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. at Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. The once-in-a-lifetime U.K. National Gallery exhibit “Leonardo da Vinci: Painter at the Court of Milan” brings together the largest ever number of da Vinci’s paintings. Captured live at the gallery on the eve of the exhibition opening, “LEONARDO LIVE” offers an unprecedented opportunity for audiences worldwide to experience these da Vinci works. The Virginia Orchid Society will present its 2012 annual Orchid Show & Sale, “Orchids, Jewels of the Jungle,” at Strange’s Florist and Greenhouse, 12111 W. The 4th annual Race to Protect Children, to benefit Greater Richmond Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN), will be held in West Broad Village in Short Pump. The Kids 1-Mile Run will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 9 a.m. Awards will be given. After the race, Dave & Buster’s will host a family festival. The 3rd annual Bluegrass Marathon Jam, benefitting the Richmond Fisher House at McGuire Veteran’s Medical Center, will be held from noon to midnight at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd. The 12-hour jam will feature bands Copper Ridge, Cary Street Ramblers, East of Afton, Slack Family Bluegrass, Highway 249, Some Assembly Required, River City Band and Willis River Band. Attendees are invited to bring their own instruments for jam sessions. Admission is free but donations are accepted. The Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church, 11421 Gayton Rd., will present “Mark Twain’s Civil War” at 7 p.m. A completely Richmond-created show based on Twain’s writings and speeches he gave to veterans groups, the play deals with issues of war, loyalties and faith. The one-night-only performance will be followed by a panel discussion with the director and local Civil War experts. The play is presented as part of The Acts of Faith Festival. Anthem ‘LemonAid’ registration opens


Last summer, hundreds of Anthem LemonAid stands dotted Central Virginia and raised more than $100,000 in support of cancer treatment and research at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR). This July 17-19, Anthem is inviting community members to host an Anthem LemonAid stand in support of the children who are battling the disease. During the past 13 summers, Anthem LemonAid has raised more than $1 million. All funds raised support the Hematology and Oncology Clinic at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

Anthem LemonAid is Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ signature summer event. It’s free to participate and is designed for children, families, community groups and businesses alike. > Read more.

Tree seedling giveaway planned April 2-3


The Henricopolis Soil & Water Conservation District will sponsor a tree seedling giveaway on April 2 at Dorey Park Shelter 1 from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on April 3 at Hermitage High School parking lot from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bare-root tree seedlings are available to Henrico County residents free of charge for the spring planting season.

The following seedling species will be available: apple, kousa dogwood, red maple, river birch, red osier dogwood, loblolly pine, sycamore, bald cypress, white dogwood and redbud. Quantities are limited and trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each participant is allowed up to 10 trees total, not to include more than five of the same species. > Read more.

State provides online directory of Bingo games


Wondering where to go to play Bingo? Wonder no more.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS) recently launched an online directory of permitted bingo games played in Virginia. Listed by locality, more than 400 regular games are available across the state. The directory will be updated monthly and can be found on VDACS’ website at http://www.vdacs.virginia.gov/gaming/index.shtml.
