Short Pump Town Center, 98.9 Liberty and local band "Offering" will host a day-long "Christmas in July" event this weekend at Short Pump Town Center.

The event on Saturday, July 23 is designed to encourage the spirit of giving while also providing activities, games and entertainment for attendees. Between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., a number of bands will perform in the town center's main plaza, concluding with a special evening concert by The Taters and Offering.

Food and monetary donations for the Central Virginia Food Bank will be collected all day, and Santa will make a visit with a number of other holiday characters as well. Jen Towner of 98.9 Liberty will serve as the emcee for the event.

Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, such as canned tuna, peanut butter and canned vegetables, to help those in need.

"The Christmas in July program provides a good opportunity to keep hunger in mind at a time when the need is high but awareness and donations can be low," said Fay Lohr, president/CEO of FeedMore, the umbrella organization of the Central Virginia Food Bank and Meals on Wheels. "Summer hunger is a big issue for our area, when thousands of children don’t have access to school breakfast and lunch. Food drives like this one help ensure that no one goes without, and they demonstrate that a generous spirit isn't limited to one time of year."

Guests also will be able to enjoy face-painting for kids, a bounce house and activities from Romp n' ROll and Theatre IV, among others. In addition, there will be special one-day only sales offers, food and drink samples from the town center merchants, the Chick-fil-A Santa Cow and Nutzy the Flying Squirrel.
