Green Hero Honored

Henrico resident and community leader Karl Bren was honored Oct. 21 at the Virginia Historical Society as a recipient of one of the James River Green Building Council’s (JRGBC) Sixth Annual Green Building Leadership Awards. Bren (pictured, center, with JRGBC Executive Director Megan Miller, left, and JRGBC Chair Lynn Rogien) is the owner of GreenVisions Consulting and has been involved with green building and sustainable development for more than 20 years. Among other recipients of awards were the organizations Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation and projects such as VCU’s Inger and Walter Rice Center for Environmental Life Sciences and the Moseley Architects’ headquarters building.

A free music camp will take place July 18-20 at Corinth United Methodist Church, 23 W. Williamsburg Rd. Students in grades 3-6 will learn hand drumming techniques and explore rhythms and world music through the playing of the cajon, a box drum. Class size is limited. The class will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day. Registration is required by July 7.
