Henrico woman wins $200k

Henrico resident Felicia Walker went to A&A Convenience Store on Hungary Spring Road in Henrico recently to play the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 game, but the clerk was on the phone and couldn't assist her. So, instead, she bought a pair of $200,000 Jackpot scratcher tickets and took them home with her. One turned out to be the third of seven grand-prize winners.}

Miracles in Motion presents Christmas concert on Dec. 21

Miracles in Motion, a dance class designed specifically for children with disabilities, will hold its first Christmas concert at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd.

The classes, taught by the Ann Catherine Cross School of Dance, cover many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, modern and musical theater. }

Capping the season in tune

The "Knitters of Cedarfield" made their annual donation of knitted caps to the Henrico Christmas Mother Dec. 5 at The Hermitage at Cedarfield, presenting 110 caps to be used by needy families.

The gift presentation was followed by a program of holiday music, performed by members of the Greater Richmond Chorus, who chose Cedarfield resident Russell Johnston as the impromptu subject of their affections during a "Santa Baby" number. }

Donations needed for ‘Saxon Shoes for the Needy’ program

Over the next two weeks Saxon Shoes will wrap up their 2012 Saxon Shoes for the Needy program. Donated shoes will benefit deserving area families through the programs of The Salvation Army ARC, 2601 Hermitage Rd. All participating individuals, organizations and families must bring their shoe donations to Saxon's Short Pump Town Center location, 11800 W. Broad St., by Dec. 24. Salvation Army’s Christmas Center opens at VCC Dec. 13

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Salvation Army of Central Virginia will begin the distribution of toys, clothing, coats, bikes, books and other items to those in need this holiday season. The Salvation Army’s Christmas Center is located at Virginia Center Commons in the former Dillard’s, 10101 Brook Rd. A ceremonial ribbon cutting will take place at 8:30 a.m. to mark the Christmas Center’s grand opening.}
