Holidays will delay some CVWMA collections


CVWMA curbside recycling collection and trash collections will have a one day delay in collections Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2. There will be no collections on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

Curbside recycling collections Monday through Wednesday will be on regular schedule. Red Thursday and Red Friday curbside recyclers will have a one day delay in collection services Dec. 25-26. Blue Thursday and Blue Friday curbside recyclers will have one day delay in collection services Jan. 1-2. Containers should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. on collection day. All Friday collections will take place on Saturday.

Hoopsters with heart

Andrew Tilghman, age 9, was one of several family members of "Make-a-Wish kids" who got a special treat Dec. 2 at Dave & Buster’s Restaurant in West Broad Village, with the help of the Harlem Globetrotters and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Virginia. Globetrotters Firefly Fisher (pictured above, with Andrew), Slick Willie Shaw, and the legendary Curly Neal hosted a pre-Christmas Parade party at which five children (including Andrew's sister) enjoyed food, drinks and free game cards with their families. }

Henrico woman wins $200k

Henrico resident Felicia Walker went to A&A Convenience Store on Hungary Spring Road in Henrico recently to play the Virginia Lottery's Cash 5 game, but the clerk was on the phone and couldn't assist her. So, instead, she bought a pair of $200,000 Jackpot scratcher tickets and took them home with her. One turned out to be the third of seven grand-prize winners.}

Miracles in Motion presents Christmas concert on Dec. 21

Miracles in Motion, a dance class designed specifically for children with disabilities, will hold its first Christmas concert at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Rd.

The classes, taught by the Ann Catherine Cross School of Dance, cover many styles of dance including ballet, jazz, modern and musical theater. }

Capping the season in tune

The "Knitters of Cedarfield" made their annual donation of knitted caps to the Henrico Christmas Mother Dec. 5 at The Hermitage at Cedarfield, presenting 110 caps to be used by needy families.

The gift presentation was followed by a program of holiday music, performed by members of the Greater Richmond Chorus, who chose Cedarfield resident Russell Johnston as the impromptu subject of their affections during a "Santa Baby" number. }
