About the Henrico Citizen

The Henrico Citizen is Henrico County's award-winning, hometown community newspaper, a publication of, by and for the people of Henrico – one of the most historic localities in the United States.

The Citizen, founded in 2001, is published on the first and third Thursdays of each month and is available at more than 110 locations throughout the county and region for free pick-up. It is the only community paper that covers all of Henrico County.

The Citizen tells the stories of the people, places, events and issues that make Henrico County so unique. In addition to regular coverage of county government issues, schools, arts, community organizations and non-profits and other local news issues of interest, as well as news of events in the region, the Citizen also publishes regular special sections on the topics of health and fitness; baby boomers and seniors; home and garden; arts and entertainment; thrifting; and many others.

The Henrico Citizen is the most honored community publication in Henrico County and is a member of the Virginia Press Association. Citizen staff members have earned 111 awards for excellence in reporting, photography and design from the VPA, the Virginia Press Women and the National Federation of Press Women since the paper's inception.

The Citizen is a longtime partner of the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers and has been recognized as Virginia Blood Services' Media Partner of the Year.

In 2011, the Citizen will celebrate its 10th anniversary and the 400th anniversary of Henrico County with a special yearlong series examining some of the most important events in the county's rich history. The Citizen also will recognize some of Henrico's unsung heroes in its first annual "Top Teachers" issue in February.

The Henrico Citizen was founded in September 2001 by publisher Tom Lappas and is owned by T3 Media, LLC in Richmond, Va.

Whale of a treat

Ironfish delights with a variety of tasty catches

I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.

Run by the same restaurateurs as Pescados Latin Caribbean Seafood in Midlothian and Eat in Oregon Hill, Ironfish offers the same unique dishes and top-level customer service. > Read more.
