The Henrico Citizen is Henrico County's award-winning, hometown community newspaper, a publication of, by and for the people of Henrico – one of the most historic localities in the United States.
The Citizen, founded in 2001, is published on the first and third Thursdays of each month and is available at more than 110 locations throughout the county and region for free pick-up. It is the only community paper that covers all of Henrico County.
The Citizen tells the stories of the people, places, events and issues that make Henrico County so unique. In addition to regular coverage of county government issues, schools, arts, community organizations and non-profits and other local news issues of interest, as well as news of events in the region, the Citizen also publishes regular special sections on the topics of health and fitness; baby boomers and seniors; home and garden; arts and entertainment; thrifting; and many others.
The Henrico Citizen is the most honored community publication in Henrico County and is a member of the Virginia Press Association. Citizen staff members have earned 182 awards for excellence in reporting, photography and design from the VPA, the Virginia Press Women and the National Federation of Press Women since the paper's inception.
The Citizen is a longtime partner of the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers and has been recognized as Virginia Blood Services' Media Partner of the Year.
In 2011, the Citizen celebrated its 10th anniversary and the 400th anniversary of Henrico County with a special yearlong series examining some of the most important events in the county's rich history.
In 2011, the Citizen published its first-annual "Henrico's Top Teachers" section, recognizing 20 outstanding teachers in the county, as nominated by readers. The issue publishes in May.
In 2012, the Citizen published its first-annual Henricopedia magazine, a guide to all things Henrico. The magazine publishes each September.
In 2015, the Citizen created and sponsored the inaugural edition of Henrico Restaurant Week, which involved more than 30 restaurants and raised more than $5,000 for the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls. In 2015, the Citizen published its first annual dining guide magazine, called The Plate. The magazine publishes each August.
The Henrico Citizen was founded in September 2001 by publisher Tom Lappas and is owned by T3 Media, LLC in Henrico, Va.

The Varina Ruritan Club celebrated its 80th anniversary with a banquet Nov. 10, during which it presented several annual awards, including Policeman of the Year – to Henrico Officer Aaron M. Lancaster (top) – and Firefighter of the Year – to Julian T. Lipscomb (second from top).
The club also received a plaque from the Henrico Division of Fire (third from top) expressing the division's appreciation for the club and its support of fire prevention programs. > Read more.
The grand opening of The Rink outdoor ice skating rink at West Broad Village will be held Saturday, Nov. 14, beginning at 11 a.m. with skating and family activities. At 4 p.m., grand opening festivities – featuring exhibitions of ice sculpting, ice skating and cheering, as well as fire pits, costumed characters, and food vendors – will begin. Skating costs are $8 for children and $10 for adults, with $4 skate rentals available. Parking is free. The Rink is located at 3939 Duckling Drive, Glen Allen.
