OrthoVirginia will acquire magnetic resonance imaging technology at its Henrico Parham location, one of its busiest offices of the 11 sites it has in central Virginia. Up to this point, OrthoVirginia performed MRI procedures on its single mobile unit at its Johnston-Willis and Farmville locations. The practice has been referring out to other MRI service providers two-thirds of its patients who require an MRI scan. OrthoVirginia received approval for its Certificate of Public Need application with the Virginia Department of Health. The new MRI facility is expected to cost $2.2 million. Newly elected 74th District Virginia Delegate Lamont Bagby has established his district office, through which constituents may contact him. Bagby's district encompasses portions of northern and eastern Henrico County, all of Charles City County and two precincts in Richmond. Bagby won a special election earlier this month, easily defeating independent David Lambert, to serve the remainder of former Delegate Joe Morrissey's term, which runs through this year. Bagby and Lambert will face off again in the general election in November for the right to serve a two-year term beginning in January. > Read more.

Henrico County Public Schools will again provide live streaming video of all HCPS graduations taking place next week at VCU’s Siegel Center. The stream can be accessed from the school system's home page, http://henrico.k12.va.us or fr,om each high school’s home page. Graduations also will be shown live on HCPS-TV (Comcast Channel 99 and FIOS channel 38) and shown again later in June.
The HCPS Department of Communications and Public Relations will post graduation photo albums daily on the division’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/HenricoCountyPublicSchools and o,n the HCPS website. UPDATE: JUNE 3, 10:58 P.M. – Two-term Tuckahoe District School Board member Lisa Marshall – who announced a little more than a month ago that she would give up her seat – has changed her mind and announced tonight that she will seek re-election in November after all.
Marshall changed her mind after seeing that no one had filed to run for the seat, with the deadline to file less than a week away.

Henrico students Amina Abdulkadir and Lilah Monroe represented Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden at the White House June 3, as part of the first harvest of the White House's Kitchen Garden. The program was part of First Lady Michelle Obama's national initiative to get kids moving and eating healthy food.
Abdulkadir, a ten-year-old fourth-grader at Ridge Elementary, and Monroe, an 11-year-old fifth-grader at Springfield Park Elementary, were accompanied by Abdulkadir’s mother, Isnina Hassan, and joined approximately 50 other students, parents and educators from around the country. The First Lady greeted the students, who then harvested vegetables from the White House Kitchen Garden and enjoyed a light lunch featuring vegetables prepared by White House chefs. > Read more.

The 10th Annual Filipino Festival will be held Aug. 7-8 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 8200 Woodman Rd., beginning with opening ceremonies at 5 p.m. Friday and continuing with live entertainment, food and exhibits until 10 p.m. On Saturday the festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a full schedule of performances featuring traditional Filipino dance, music and song.
Filipino cuisine, including BBQ, pansit, lumpia, adobo, halo-halo, lechon, empanada and leche flan, will be available for purchase. The festival will also feature a children's area, church tours, exhibits, and health screenings. > Read more.
The Children’s Museum of Richmond last week opened its new Short Pump location at Short Pump Town Center, to the delight of children who attended a sneak preview of the location July 10. The new facility, located under the forthcoming LL Bean store (formerly the food court) is 8,500 square feet in size – much larger than CMoR’s former Short Pump location at West Broad Village, which opened in 2010.
