Henrico County Supervisor Patricia S. O’Bannon has been designated to serve on the Virginia Statewide Interoperability Executive Committee.
The committee works to define and implement the Statewide Communication Interoperability Plan, which guides efforts to promote compatibility among communication systems used by public safety agencies at the local, regional and state levels. > Read more.

Henrico County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will offer a training program beginning Saturday, Sept. 10 for volunteers who would work in the court system on behalf of abused or neglected children.
The free, 14-session training course will include classes at the Henrico CASA office in suite A of the Hungary Spring Office Park, 3001 Hungary Spring Road. A swearing-in ceremony will follow Monday, Oct. 17 at the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court.
Anyone interested in serving as a volunteer advocate must apply by Friday, Aug. 19, be at least 21 years old and have regular access to a computer. > Read more.

The Henrico Education Foundation will host a Nov. 3 fundraiser at Glen Allen High School with actor and author Henry Winkler, who is best known for his role as Fonzie in the 1970s sitcom "Happy Days."
The event, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., will include remarks and conversation with Winkler; coffee and dessert; and a book sale and signing.

In collaboration with community partners around the metro-Richmond area, University of Richmond’s School of Professional and Continuing Studies is launching a new beer brewer professional certificate program. The first class will begin in October.
This program is geared toward those interested in entering or advancing in the growing craft beer industry. Students will learn the craft brewing business from the procurement of raw materials through to the proper handling, processing, packaging and distribution of the final product. > Read more.
Henrico elementary schools failed to fill substitute teacher spots more than 2,400 times in past 2 years

When a teacher calls in sick or misses a day for another reason, schools rely on substitute teachers to fill in. But what happens when substitutes aren’t available – or aren’t willing to report to certain schools?
It's a question that even Henrico County Public Schools officials can't completely answer – even though the scenario has occurred more than 2,400 times at Henrico elementary schools during the past two school years.
Data provided by Henrico County Public Schools to the Citizen at the newspaper’s request paints a striking contrast between how often substitute positions went unfilled at schools in Eastern Henrico when compared to those in the West End. > Read more.

Thomas O. Bondurant Jr. has been appointed to the Henrico County General District Court, effective Sept. 1.
Henrico’s Circuit judges selected Bondurant to fill a vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Mary B. Malveaux to the Court of Appeals of Virginia.
A member of the Virginia State Bar since 1974, Bondurant has practiced law in civil and criminal trial and appellate courts in all state and federal jurisdictions. His work has included family, criminal, real estate and personal injury cases. > Read more.
