Urban Farmhouse Market and Cafe, a popular local chain of cafes and coffehouses, has expanded into Henrico, with the opening of a location at Rocketts Landing.

The new Cross Grain Brewhouse restaurant and bar will open at Richmond International Airport this week. The location will hold its grand opening Wednesday, Aug. 24. David Posner, president of Royal Productions, has announced the sale of three Richmond-area home shows – the Richmond Home Show (October 8-9, RIR Complex), the Virginia Home Show (January 28-29, 2017, Meadow Event Park), and the Richmond Home & Garden Show (March 3-5, 2017, RIR Complex) – to Marketplace Events, LLC effective immediately. Royal Productions has purchased the Virginia Outdoor Sportsman Show which was held recently at the Richmond Raceway Complex and also produces the Greater Philadelphia Boat Show. > Read more.

The start of a redistricting process that could alleviate crowded conditions at Hungary Creek Middle School is on hold for another seven months or so while Henrico County Public Schools officials first consider the possible implementation of new instructional programs at the middle school level.
The Henrico School Board had hoped to begin the redistricting process this fall, but Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Beth Teigen told the board last week that it wouldn't make sense to start yet. That's because officials are weighing the possibility of establishing special "academies" at some middle schools to provide focused instruction in several topics – potentially including leadership, coding and/or STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). > Read more.

The Henrico Business Leaders organization is conducting its annual school supply drive to benefit its partner school of the last three years, Hermitage High School.
HBL members are collecting pens, pencils, highlighters, index cards and other typical classroom materials for students who cannot afford to buy their own items, so that those students will be properly equipped when the school year begins next month.
The drive is taking place through the end of August, and supplies will be distributed to Hermitage Aug. 22. > Read more.

Henrico County has hosted a Fourth of July celebration annually since 1981, but this year’s event will offer a later start time and expanded hours and be highlighted by new entertainment.
