A great nephew’s quest

Cussons descendant searches for clues to Glen Allen print house

Proposed CARE bus reservation changes put on hold

GRTC officials have decided to shelve several proposed changes to the way disabled and elderly riders make reservations for the system's CARE and CARE Plus bus transportation services, following concerns expressed by members of the public and staff members.

Henrico County supervisors also had voiced concerns about the proposal during a work session last week. A revised proposal could be introduced by late summer, according to GRTC Chief of Transit Operations Tim Barham.

CARE service is federally mandated transportation designed to serve areas within three-quarters of a mile to either side of existing fixed-route bus service. In Henrico, CARE Plus offers door-to-door service anywhere in the county seven days a week to disabled and elderly residents who live farther from bus routes or who need to travel during the times CARE buses do not operate (between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. on weeknights and 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends). > Read more.
