Event to benefit low-income homeowners
River Road United Methodist Church will host its fifth Run 2 Rebuild Richmond Saturday, Oct. 1 to raise money for Rebuilding Together Richmond.
The event will include a 5K run/walk, a one-mile “Fun Run” and a wellness fair. Event proceeds will benefit Rebuilding Together Richmond, a local non-profit that brings volunteers together to repair the homes of low-income homeowners. > Read more.
Driver arrested on DUI charge

An early morning single-vehicle crash in Eastern Henrico Sunday killed a 34-year-old Richmond man, and Henrico Police arrested the vehicle's driver and charged her with driving under the influence.
At 2:46 a.m. Sept. 25, Henrico Police and Fire personnel responded to Osborne Turnpike near the intersection of River Bend Estates Drive for a single vehicle accident.
A Chevrolet van was traveling west on Osborne Turnpike when it ran off of the right side of the roadway and into a ditch. > Read more.

The Henrico County Public Library system will host three "death cafés" – gatherings during which attendees can discuss death and dying in what the library terms "surprisingly upbeat and informative guided discussions" led by spiritual and bereavement counselor Alane Miles.
The events will provide attendees the opportunity to ask any and all questions about the topics of death, dying, grief and funeral practices, in an informal setting. Miles has 20 years of experience in the hospice field, hosts the Death Club Radio show on WRIR and writes for Style Weekly. Registration is not required. > Read more.

Healthy eating, business sense and the value of entrepreneurship are among the many lessons students from Fairfield Middle School learned this summer.
The Fairfield Middle School East End Community Garden, a student-run farmers’ market that has operated each Wednesday, concluding Aug. 13, has served as the training ground for these skills.
Fairfield math teacher Amanda Hall dreamed up the farmers’ market two years ago. > Read more.

St. Joseph’s Villa recently launched an early intervention program for children ages 2 to 5 with autism. The program, one of the first of its kind in Central Virginia, operates on the Villa campus and is overseen by Adam Dreyfus, director of the Villa’s Sarah Dooley Center for Autism.
The program was formed in response to the increasing rate of autism in the nation and an improved ability for its diagnosis as early as age 2. > Read more.
More public access points to rivers, creeks coming
Residents and river enthusiasts in Henrico soon will be able to access local waterways and the Chickahominy and James rivers with greater ease, thanks to the addition of multiple public access points that will increase opportunities for recreational use and spread the impact of visitation.
There are only two public access sites to waterways in Henrico currently – at Deep Bottom Park and Osborne Landing in Varina – both of which access the James River. > Read more.
