‘Cromagnon Mom’ pleads for higher driving age
By Patty Kruszewski, Citizen Managing Editor 04/15/2013 Family Forum
Among some of my parenting peers, I am sure I was considered overly permissive in my child-rearing.
I was not strict on bedtimes; I let my girls get crazy dirty, wear jeans and t-shirts and do other 'unfeminine' things. On occasion I even let them listen to rap music, or join me at Legend Brewing for movie night.
But to my own three kids, I was always Cromagnon Mom – especially on the topic of teen-age driving.

In Celebration of the National Kidney Foundation
|
Monday is a special birthday. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) was founded on November 15, 1950 by the parents of a toddler stricken with what was then called nephrosis. It was incurable. In 1950 if your kidneys failed, you died. NKF was there in the early days to support patients and their families.

Seeking answers for a senseless tragedy

By Tom Lappas, Citizen Publisher 09/16/2004
On Aug. 30, while a woman I didn’t know was struggling for her life, I stood 50 feet away in a biting downpour, peering through a soaked camera lens, and took pictures.
I am still trying to understand how I should feel about that. Her name was Betty Ann Richardson. Like most of us that evening, she was merely trying to drive home through the sudden chaos caused by Tropical Storm Gaston. But unlike the rest of us, she never made it. |
