Community summit on heroin and opioid abuse, addiction planned at Glen Allen HS

Description: Henrico County and its Heroin Task Force will present a community summit on heroin and opioid abuse and addiction from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Glen Allen High School. FBI Director James B. Comey will be the keynote speaker. These potent, highly addictive drugs, which include prescription painkillers such as OxyContin and Vicodin, are threatening every community and segment of society, regardless of age or income. The summit will offer information from local community service providers and include a showing of “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opioid Addict.” A panel discussion will follow. The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present The Nile Project at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. The Nile Project, conceived by Egyptian ethnomusicologist Mina Girgis and Ethiopian-American singer Meklit Hadero, consists of a dozen musicians who hail from every country bordering the Nile River. The Nile Project’s mission is to “educate, inspire, and empower the citizens of the Nile basin to foster the sustainability of the Nile River’s ecosystem.” Tickets are $36.
