Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games planned at Richmond Raceway

Description: The Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Competitions include fiddle, harp, highland dance, piping, drumming and Gaelic song, as well as heavy athletics and hurling. The Fighting Jamesons, Albannach and others will perform. The Vendor Village will be selling jewelry, traditional Celtic food, pottery and kilts. Whisky tastings (additional fee) include instruction and an interactive session on the proper way to nose and taste single malt Scotch whisky. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick or treat with the various clans in attendance. Virginia Hemophilia Foundation’s 2017 VHF Trick or Trot 5K and Fun Walk planned in Midlothian

Description: The Virginia Hemophilia Foundation’s 2017 VHF Trick or Trot 5K and Fun Walk will start at 9 a.m. at Robious Landing Park, Shelter 3, in Midlothian. There will be a 5K course, a quick one-mile route and the Monster Dash, a 100-yard fun run for kids 12 and under. Costumes are highly encouraged. A pre-race Halloween party will feature a DJ, food and more. Funds raised will go toward fulfilling VHF's mission of supporting the needs of those impacted by a bleeding disorder through education, advocacy, and community. Description: The annual Harvest Event and Brunswick Stew Sale at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church, 10627 Patterson Ave., will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Vendors will be selling Christmas gifts, crafts, jewelry and more. There will also be a bake sale and St. Bart’s Café. Canned goods will be collected for the Central Virginia Food Bank. The Proclamation Stew Crew will be selling quarts of Brunswick Stew for $9 per quart. Advance orders are recommended and can be placed online at www.stbartsrichmond.org.
