Henricus Historical Park to offer James River Camp for ages 9-12 Aug. 15-17

Description: Henricus Historical Park will offer James River Camp for children aged 9-12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15-17. Campers will explore the environmental features of the historic James River as 17th-century Virginia Indians and the Colonial settlers would have encountered it. Paddle a kayak and identify how the plants and animals of the river were hunted, gathered and used throughout history. Understand the course changes made at Dutch Gap during the Civil War and see how it is used today. Registration is required by Aug. 11 by calling 318-8797.

Description: The Children’s Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church, 22 N. Holly Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to noon every Tuesday and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. every second and fourth Thursday of the month. Clothing is available in sizes infant through teen and is free. Clothes are located on the second floor and no elevator is available.

Fairfield Library to host Teen Food Challenge

Description: Fairfield Library will host the Teen Food Challenge from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Be a member of a team whose challenge is to develop a recipe and prepare the dish within 40 minutes – with ingredients only revealed at the competition. Teams will be assigned randomly at the start of the program. All teams will make a presentation to a judging panel (librarians), explaining the preparation steps, serving size, food safety concerns, nutrition value and cost of the dish.
