Henricus' Discovery Day Program Series to highlight 17th-century food

Description: The Henricus Historical Park’s Discovery Day Program Series continues with “Food of the 17th Century: Learn about what breakfast, lunch and dinner might look like for a Powhatan Indian or English colonist.” The program, designed for children ages 3-10, is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities will include a story, short tour and activities in the historic site, and a make-and-take craft. Stay as little or as long as you like. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The series concludes Aug. 24. Admission is $10 per child and $7 per adult. Description: Virginia Repertory Theatre will present a musical retelling of the beloved American story “The Little Engine That Could” July 7-30 at The Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn. The classic family tale of determination and perseverance is reimagined through the heartwarming relationship between a young girl and her grandfather. Description: Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden will present Flowers After 5 on Thursday evenings through September. Stroll through the gardens and enjoy live music from Orquesta Curare, as well as family activities, wine and beer, dining and shopping. Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. The Garden partners with the Richmond SPCA on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month for Fidos After 5 where leashed pets are allowed. Admission is $8 to $13 or free for members. Wilkinson Rd., will host an independent theatre production titled “Five Flights” at 8 p.m. July 20-22 and 27-29. “Five Flights” is the story of three siblings deciding what to do with the enormous aviary their late father built for his deceased wife, whose soul, he believed, had transformed into the body of a wren.
