Glen Allen Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 10657 to host two concerts

Description: Glen Allen Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary 10657 will hold a breakfast concert from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Applebees at Virginia Center Commons. Nikki and Chip Headley and Rick Dellinger will sing. Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, sausage and a beverage. Cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children under six years old. Registration is requested so Applebees can prepare the right amount of food. For details, call Peggy Strong at 241-7471. That evening, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Glen Allen VFW Post will hold its first Gospel Night for 2017 at 11568 Cedar Ln. in Ashland. Nikki and Chip Headley will perform. Cost is $7; if you attend the morning concert, the ticket price will be reduced to $5. Proceeds from both concerts benefit veterans and their families.

FIRST Chesapeake District Central Virginia Competition planned at Deep Run HS

Description: More than 1,000 high school students will converge on Deep Run High School to test their teamwork and ingenuity during the FIRST Chesapeake District Central Virginia Competition Mar. 25-26. This year’s game theme, FIRST Steamworks, invites two adventure clubs from an era in which technology relied on steam power to prepare their airships for the ultimate long distance race. Forty Robotics Competition teams from Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia will face off. This is one of seven district qualifying events hosted by FIRST Chesapeake. The competition is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days.

Freeman HS to host 7th annual Rebel Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run

Description: The Douglas Freeman High School Athletic Booster Club will host its 7th annual Rebel Run 5k and 1 Mile Fun Run at 9 a.m. The Fun Run, for elementary school students who choose not to participate in the 5K, will take place on the Freeman track just prior to the start of 5K. The 5k will begin and end at Freeman with the course covering the surrounding neighborhoods. All proceeds benefit the athletic program and student athletes. Survival Expo planned at Richmond Raceway Complex Mar. 25-26

Description: RK Prepper Show’s Survival Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mar. 25 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mar. 26 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Vendors will be on-site with everything from camping gear to off-grid living supplies, as well as long-term food storage, solar power, bug-out kits and tactical gear. Featured speakers will discuss topics such as preparing on a budget, food storage, body armor basics and more. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 and free for ages five and under.

Description: Henricus Historical Park will commemorate the death of Pocahontas in England on Mar. 21, 1617 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join Henricus historians as they highlight the significant impact Pocahontas made, and honor her on the 400th anniversary of her death. Additionally, Powhatan interpreters will demonstrate how Pocahontas’ people may have treated her death and explore their traditions of burial. 10th annual Strike Out Cancer bowling challenge & silent auction planned in Short Pump

Description: The 10th annual Strike Out Cancer bowling challenge & silent auction, benefiting the American Cancer Society, will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bowl America Short Pump. A registration fee of $25 per adult or $15 per child includes three games of 9-no tap bowling and shoe rental. Top teams and individual bowlers will receive recognition; participants will also be able to check out the silent auction, spin the wheel, and participate in other special prize drawings. Description: Camp Kesem at University of Richmond, an organization dedicated to supporting children through and beyond their parent’s cancer, will hold its annual Make the Magic event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in Alice Haynes Room on the UR campus. Funds raised during this annual charity dinner will help provide year-long peer support and send 70 campers ages 6-16 to camp from August 12-17. Student volunteers from University of Richmond will assist at the event, which will include a cocktail hour, camper family guest speakers, live paddle raise, raffle prizes, photobooth fun, and musical entertainment.
