Ashland Beekeepers Assoc. to offer 4-session introductory beekeeper course Mar. 6-27

Description: The Ashland Beekeepers Association will offer the four-session class “A Beekeeper Introductory Short Course” on Mondays, March 6-27, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Family Life Baptist Church, 206 S. Washington Hwy. in Ashland. Class topics include honey bee biology, beekeeper equipment, seasonal hive management, pest and disease management and more. An optional visit to an apiary for an actual hive inspection will be offered. Cost is $60 per person; additional members of the same household are $30 per person. Tuckahoe Library to host Death Café

Description: Tuckahoe Library will host a Death Café from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Led by spiritual and bereavement counselor Alane Miles, a Death Café is a gathering during which attendees can discuss death and dying in a surprisingly upbeat and informative way. Ask questions about the often-taboo topics of death, dying, grief and funeral practices. The Henricus Historical Park’s Discovery Day Program Series starts with “Children of Arrohateck: Learn about the lives of the youngest Powhatan Indians.” The program, designed for children ages 3-10, is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activities will include a story, short tour and activities in the historic site, and a make-and-take craft. Stay as little or as long as you like. All children must be accompanied by an adult. The series continues July 27 and Aug. 24. Admission is $10 per child and $7 per adult.
