Henrico Theatre Company to present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at CACGA

The Henrico Theatre Company will present “Driving Miss Daisy” Sept. 15 to Oct. 1 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. Taking place in the deep South in 1948 just prior to the civil rights movement, this is a warmhearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, crotchety white Southern lady and a proud, soft-spoken black man. All performances are at 8 p.m. except for Sunday matinees which start at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors (55+) and students. Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games planned at Richmond Raceway

The Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Competitions include fiddle, harp, highland dance, piping, drumming and Gaelic song, as well as heavy athletics and hurling. The Fighting Jamesons, Albannach and others will perform. The Vendor Village will be selling jewelry, traditional Celtic food, pottery and kilts. Whisky tastings (additional fee) include instruction and an interactive session on the proper way to nose and taste single malt Scotch whisky. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick or treat with the various clans in attendance. The Richmond Home Show returns Oct. 13-15 to the Richmond Raceway Complex. More than 250 vendors representing every aspect of home improvement – including remodeling, kitchen and bath, décor, flooring, landscaping and more – will be available. Mark Bowe, host of DIY Network’s Barnwood Builders, also will be in attendance. The Main Stage will feature presentations by national and local experts and the Taste of Virginia marketplace and Beer Garden will offer samples.
