Spring PlantFest at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 5 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 6. Now in its 30th year, the plant sale features approximately 40 vendors from around the region offering a wide array of plants, shrubs, trees and garden-themed items. A tool sharpener will be on-site and for a fee will sharpen hand tools, knives and scissors with same-day service. Lavender Fields Herb Farm’s annual Spring Herb Faire will take place over two weekends, May 5-6 and May 12-13, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Shop from over 200 varieties of certified organic herb and veggie plants. There will be free tours, demonstrations and classes on topics such as raised bed gardening, cooking with herbs and vegetables, and container gardening. Both Saturdays will feature free face painting and a children’s planting activity. The Glen Allen Ruritan Club will also be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, chili and slaw on both Saturdays. The Henrico Theatre Company will present “The Cemetery Club” May 5-21 at The Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen. This comedy by Ivan Menchell is about three Jewish widows who meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. The 2017 Central Virginia Corks & Taps Festival will take place rain or shine from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Innsbrook Pavilion. This year’s event will showcase 10 wineries and seven craft breweries and cideries from around the Commonwealth, live music, food and beverage concessions, specialty-item and arts and crafts vendors and more. Proceeds will benefit the general scholarship and endowment funds for the Richmond Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.
