The Richmond Home + Garden Show returns to the Richmond Raceway Complex from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 3, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. March 4 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 5. Features of the show include more than 250 home improvement and gardening vendors, appearances by Kevin O’Connor (PBS’ “This Old House”) and The Fabulous Beekman Boys (Cooking Channel), tiny homes, pub sheds, Barkitecture Village (sponsored by Henrico Humane Society) and more. Henrico County Community Revitalization will present a free home maintenance workshop from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Eastern Henrico Recreation Center. The topic will be “Outdoor Improvements.” Learn how to take care of decks and patios, how to properly paint indoor and outdoor spaces, how to design a landscape that works for you, and how to prepare your yard for spring. The Lakeside Moose Lodge 1714, located at 1207 Hilliard Rd., will host a Chili Cook-off at 9 a.m. Entrance fee is $20 through Feb. 15, $30 through March 3 and $40 on the day of the event. Judges tickets are $10 – there will be both popular judging and double blind judging. Both will be awarded cash prizes and are based on participation and attendance. Sisters in Crime – Central Virginia will celebrate the organization’s 30th anniversary with Mysterypalooza from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Tuckahoe Library. This day of mystery will showcase local mystery/thriller writers and includes an “Our Pathways to Publishing” panel discussion with Mary Burton, LynDee Walker, Mollie Cox Bryan, Mary Behre, and Tracey Livesay, followed by a meet and greet and book signing with twelve local mystery/thriller writers.

The Henrico County Historical Society will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd. The speaker will be Dr. Bruce M. Venter, who will discuss his new book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.” Venter’s major interest is Civil War cavalry with an emphasis on the career of Union general Judson Kilpatrick. He frequently lectures on the cavalry and has led bus tours on the Kilpatrick-Dahlgren raid, the focus of his book, “Kill Jeff Davis – The Union Raid on Richmond, 1864.”
