Restaurant Watch


Following are routine and complaint inspection reports for Henrico County food establishments inspected recently by the Henrico Health Department, according to Virginia Department of Health guidelines. Deficiencies are noted as “priority” or “priority foundation” (posing a direct or immediate threat to the safety of the food being served) or “core” (representing a failure of cleaning or maintenance). Inspections represent only a snapshot of the establishment on a specific date and time and may not be representative of its overall cleanliness, according to the VDH. Unless noted, all reported violations were corrected at the time of inspection or shortly thereafter.

MAR. 31
Casa Grande, 7818 West Broad Street – Five priority violations reported (raw ground beef observed stored over pork and tripe in walk-in; queso and beef with peppers and onions were placed onto steam tables without proper reheating; lettuce tub observed at room temperature, a plate of chile rellenos found on counter observed at improper temperature; salsa for which time rather than temperature was being used as a control was not labeled or otherwise marked with a four-hour cook, serve, or discard-by time; latex paint cans observed stored beside cans of ketchup) and three priority foundation violations reported.
Flamers Charbroiled Hamburger & Chicken, 1404 North Parham Road – No violations reported.
Padow’s Hams & Deli, 4120 Cox Road – No violations reported.
Pho 79, 6909 Staples Mill Road – One priority violation reported (sprouts observed at improper temperature) and one priority foundation violation reported.

Cafe at the Weinstein JCC, 5403 Monument Avenue – One priority violation reported (salmon spread and tuna salad in display case observed at improper temperature) and one priority foundation violation reported.
Panda Express, 9100 Staples Mill Road – One priority violation reported (cut cabbage observed at improper temperature in three different tubs, condensation was found on inside of containers – it appears this product was not cooled quickly after cutting) and no priority foundation violations reported.

Amanecer Latino Market, 8410 Staples Mill Road – Two priority violations reported (raw chicken observed stored above fish in make table and raw chicken stored beside beef in walk-in; pupusa ingredients not held in refrigerator, were on cart at room temperature) and no priority foundation violations reported.
Ma & Pa’s Diner, 5600 Williamsburg Road – No violations reported.
New Top’s China Restaurant, 7111 Staples Mill Road – One priority violation reported (chicken bones observed inside a pot on the steam table at improper temperature) and no priority foundation violations reported.
Sumo Sushi Express, 1090 Virginia Center Parkway – No violations reported.
Veritas Collaborative, 6627 West Broad Street – No violations reported.

Lilly Pad Three, 9680 Osborne Turnpike – No priority or priority foundation violations reported.
Ms. Fun Cakes, 8715 Carters Mill Road – No priority violations reported and one priority foundation violation reported.
Sakura Japanese Restaurant, 9008 West Broad Street – One priority violation reported (large plastic tubs of rice made night before in walk-in refrigerator observed at improper temperature) and no priority foundation violations reported.
Short Pump Pour House, 3438 Pump Road – No violations reported.
Subway, 7003 Three Chopt Road – No priority or priority foundation violations reported.
Taco Bell, 4388 South Laburnum Avenue – No priority or priority foundation violations reported.

APR. 6
Big O BBQ, 7801 West Broad Street – No violations reported.
Chick-fil-A, 9100 West Broad Street – Four priority violations reported (several food employees observed reporting to work and not washing hands before handling food and drink; tomatoes and cheese in sandwich station found at improper temperatures, small unit with sausage patties under pass-through had elevated temps; insufficient back flow device found on mop sink faucet; a bottle of cleaner was found beside exposed plastic wrap) and two priority foundation violations reported.
Yummy of Richmond, 6023 Nine Mile Road – Five priority violations reported (employee handling raw chicken then cooking food observed using the phone then continuing to prep food without washing hands; raw meats observed stored above ready-to-eat foods in walk-in cooler; eggs observed out at room temperature, sprouts observed at improper temperatures in walk-in; employee observed rinsing off dirty dishes then putting them away without sanitizing them; medicines stored on top of refrigeration unit observed being used to prepare food) and three priority foundation violations reported.
