CAT Theatre to host auditions for ‘Jeeves Intervenes’

CAT Theatre will conduct auditions on Jan. 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. for Jeeves Intervenes, based on the original P. G. Wodehouse stories about Bertie Wooster and his manservant, Jeeves. Auditions will be held at the theatre at 319 North Wilkinson Road, Henrico. Jeeves Intervenes runs Mar. 17 to Apr. 1.

The story follows 1920s high-society London as it is thrown into chaos by hapless playboy Bertie Wooster, this time in cahoots with his old school chum Eustace Bassington-Bassington. The two hatch a plan to dupe their meddling relatives in order to save Bertie from an undesired marriage and Eustace from an unwanted job in India. But will the ever-faithful Jeeves be able to rescue these bumbling fools from themselves?

Director Laurie Follmer will be looking for one female and four male actors. All actors will be paid. Characters include:

• Bertram Wilberforce Wooster, a wealthy, carefree bachelor with a talent for getting himself into pickles;

• Jeeves, Bertie’s valet and the perfect gentleman’s gentleman – unflappable, infallible and never at a loss when faced with one of Bertie’s little difficulties;

• Eustace Bassington-Bassington ("Bassy"), an old school friend of Bertie’s, who is prone to sudden attacks of love;

• Agatha Spencer-Gregson, Bertie’s fearsome aunt, a born tyrant and a woman who, says Bertie, “gladly wears barbed wire next to the skin";

• Sir Rupert Watlington-Pipps, Eustace’s short-tempered, skin-flint uncle, a former military man who is bent on forcing his disappointing nephew into becoming a man of worth.

Auditions will be from selections front the script. The sides from the script are posted at
