Henrico actress lands role in Christian TV series

Liv Matthews always knew she wanted to be an actress – ever since she started singing songs from the Sound of Music at a very young age. Many told her that she would grow out of it, but she is still very passionate, already acting as a paid extra in the movie Coming Through the Rye.

“Liv is full of life and energy,” said her father, Barry Matthews. “She lights up the stage and enjoys being in front of the audience.”

Matthews attended the Center for the Arts at Henrico High School and has been in several drama organizations including SPARC and CharacterWorks. As an incoming freshman, she received the Helen Hayes Undergraduate Theatre Scholarship Recruitment Award from the University of South Carolina, where she will be a sophomore in the fall.

“I’m amazed at how Liv is not only a great actress, but also a unique scholar,” said her father. ”She has won two national scholar awards and attends the honors college at the University of South Carolina.”

Matthews is studying theatre and political science. During her freshman year, she heard about a casting call for CYCLES, a Christian drama television series on Preach the Word Worldwide Network TV channel and website (http://www.ptwwntv.com), from her university newsletter.

“I was really excited when I got the part,” she said. “I was interested in the show because it’s centered around God, has lot of twists and turns, and leaves the audience in suspense.”

CYCLES is filmed in Columbia, South Carolina. The series is centered on a book called CYCLES, I’m Still Here, by Dr. Marion Myers, who also writes and produces the show. The show is based on Dr. Myers personal experiences and touches on subjects of cyberbullying, unfaithfulness in marriages, drugs and alcohol.

“Liv has been on the set two to three times so far and we love her”, said CYCLES spokeswoman Melissa Hensley. “She is energetic, always smiling and never complains.”

Matthews' first appearance on the show aired July 17. In the last three episodes of the second season, she is known as the accomplice, and her character will develop more in season three. After college, she plans to move to New York and follow her dreams by pursuing a stage acting career on Broadway.

“There are endless opportunities, all you have to do is put yourself out there,” she said. “If you are really passionate, just do it.”
