Three-Penny Theatre will present “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” a new play adapted from Victor Hugo’s classic novel, at 7 p.m. March 10 and at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. March 11 at The Gayton Kirk Presbyterian Church. Set in and around Notre Dame Cathedral, the story explores the place where human emotions but up against organized religion and faith. Henrico County Recreation and Parks’ Adventure Series returns to the county Administrative Board Room at 4301 E. Parham Rd. from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. The topic will be Mt. Kilimanjaro, commonly referred to as a “trekking peak” in the climbing community, requiring no previous experience or technical skill to complete successfully. Nineteen of the Richmond region’s most renowned historic sites will offer visitors a “passport” to travel back in time during the weekend of March 11-12. Visitors are invited to discover the area’s treasures, spanning 400 years of fascinating history. This is a special opportunity as some of these sites are not usually open on a regular basis. Volunteers are needed to help clean East End and Evergreen Cemeteries from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. These cemeteries are the eternal sacred grounds for thousands of African American historical figures. Decades of neglect has obscured their graves and thousands of others beneath tangles of ivy, brush, and illegally dumped trash. Since June 2013, a small group of regular volunteers, along with many students and Richmond-area residents, have been working to reveal them, slowly uncovering not just long-buried headstones but an entire community. Forgo shopping at big-box stores and support small, women (including trans women/women identifying/non-cisgender male) and minority-owned businesses. Vendors will (voluntarily) donate 15% of proceeds to a local non-profit working toward empowering women and minorities while promoting equality for all. The Virginia Senior Games, open to athletes ages 50 and up, will take place at 14 venues across Henrico County May 10-13. The games include archery, badminton, golf, horseshoes, pickleball, shuffleboard, swimming, table tennis and many more.
