Pet Valu to raise funds for local shelters throughout November

Pet Valu, with two locations in Henrico County, will hold a Thanks for Giving collection drive throughout the month of November to raise awareness of and collect food and supplies for local shelters and rescues that serve homeless animals in need.

Customers are encouraged to make monetary donations in store and to drop off food and unused supplies for pets at their local Pet Valu stores. Customers will also be able to feed a homeless dog or cat for a week by purchasing a food care package for $5.

The holiday season is an important time to ensure rescues are stocked up on supplies and food as they often see a rise in the number of pets they serve when pets are gifted to individuals unable to care for them.

Pet Valu has locations at The Corner at Short Pump and The Shops at Willow Lawn.

Thanks to the NASA @ My Library program, the Glen Allen, Libbie Mill, North Park, Twin Hickory and Varina libraries will host free eclipse-viewing parties and distribute free eclipse-viewing classes while supplies last from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. A solar eclipse will occur that day. Henrico residents of all ages can learn about the science behind eclipses and pick up a pair of glasses to safely view the eclipse. Limited quantities of these safety glasses will be available to the public at all Henrico County Public Library locations, and distribution may be restricted to one pair of glasses per family if demand is overwhelming.
