Savannah College of Art and Design alumna, Ashley Tamber, graphic design certificate, has won an Applied Arts Magazine student award. The Henrico native was recognized for her piece, “Offbeat Roadtrip Icons.” She will also receive recognition of her work in the November/December issue of Applied Arts Magazine. Applied Arts Awards have recognized top creative talent in the industry for over 20 years.

Senior Lillian Walker, of Henrico, has been appointed to the student leadership organization of cadre within the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) at Randolph-Macon Academy. She received the position of Alumni/Development Officer with the rank of Cadet First Lieutenant. Only students with records of strong academics and leadership abilities are eligible for the Academy's cadet officer and non-commissioned officer ranks.

Denison University student Jake LeFeuvre, of Henrico, was chosen as a 2016 summer research scholar in a program funded by the J. Reid and Polly Anderson Summer Research Scholarship. LeFeuvre is one of 107 students who spent their summer conducting in-depth research on “The Effect of Mosquito Larvicides on Aquatic Ecosystems” at Denison or off-campus. The faculty-led programs include undertakings in the sciences, humanities, social sciences and the arts.

Desiree Hopkins, of Henrico, has received the H.W. Wilson Foundation Scholarship at East Carolina University’s College of Education. More than $550,000 in merit and need-based scholarships was distributed to 106 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral education students. The awards range from $250 to $20,000 with some open to all education students while others are earmarked for specific education majors or programs.
