READ Center to hold free tutor training

If you can read this, you could help someone you can’t.

More than 18,500 adults in Henrico County struggle to read basic text. The READ Center’s mission is to help adults with low-level literacy develop basic reading and communication skills so they can fulfill their roles as citizens, workers, and family members.

The READ Center will hold free tutor training May 17 at the Ginter Park Library. During the training, tutors will learn about the local need for adult literacy tutoring, the mission of The READ Center, and practical techniques for working with adult learners.

Volunteer tutor candidates are encouraged to contact The READ Center at 288-9930 or to visit readcenter.org and sign up for training or ask questions about becoming an adult literacy tutor.
